YIRI was Upper West representative in this year's GMB |
Until the recent
creation of six new regions in Ghana, the Upper West region was considered the
youngest region in the country. She has therefore lagged behind in terms of
sharing of national cakes or development. The perception many so assumed was
that nothing meaningful could come out of this region. The region has produced a President, ministers
of states and national beauty pageants. Talking of beauty pageants, since the
inception of TV3 Ghana Most Beautiful reality show, the Upper West Region has
never failed in producing young, beautiful, intelligent and well vested
daughters of the land into the beauty reality show. Mentions can be made of
Delimwini, Ruby Nang (Nuo), Nimatu
Haduon Ibrahim (Nima), Numbu Shaguffa Adams (Numbu), Bentie Abigail Baciara to
mention just few. Since the later success on winning the ultimate, the Upper
West Region representatives were either evicted early or got disappointed after
sometime in the reality house.
That phenomenon hasn’t changed as far as this
year (2019) contest is concern. The Region representative and only hope of
replicating the success chalked by Baci some years ago were dented when she was
controversially, unequivocally and bluntly evicted from the house. The norm of
the reality show of 70% public votes and 30% judges were met with outcry from
the public when the region contestant Tzilla Edith (Yiri) was shown the exit
door despite amassing huge votes from the public. She has votes more than five
(5) other contestants who were blindly and favorably saved by the judges. The
reason for her eviction can’t be laid on votes but the brain work of an
individual, group of people or just a deliberate attempt by the judges not to
see an Upper West making it to the grand finale and possibly winning it again.
It is apparent she fumbled a bit on the night of eviction, but she wasn’t the
only one. Besides, if one night performance was to determine the fate of these
beautiful ladies, majority of those saved and still in that house should have
equally been evicted. The most watched beauty show which once was held in high
esteem has now begun to drain in slump with their unrepentant and disillusioned
judgement especially the one meted out to Yiri.
We in the Upper
West Region has never complained bitterly about our evicts but Yiri’s
departure from the show this year has put fear, tension and trauma into
potential young ladies who might be willing to follow same. Young, beautiful
and dynamic ladies from the Upper West Region has claimed they are planning of
boycotting the beauty pageants show next year(2020) to show solidarity to this
year evict Tzilla Edith aka Yiri. They felt Yiri was maltreated and shamed
despite her series of stellar performances that saw her wrap up individual awards
like Star Performer etc. They felt same fate will meet them irrespective of how
the public will votes. This they say is a deliberate attempt by the judges not
to see Upper West region winning another crown.
They have made
it clear that any lady that goes to contest will do so at her own risk and she
should be ready to canvass votes for herself because they (Upper West Young
Girls) will not vote or help in any way for that contestant. Meanwhile, many
have taken to social media to express their pride in Yiri despite her eviction.
They have showered her with praises for a well endured campaign while in the
house. They have labelled her as the best ever after Baciara’s success.
Tzilla Edith,
the fact that you were unfairly treated, but Upper West is proud of you. You
did better than those that are still kept there. You are a successful woman.
You will walk with your head held high. You haven’t failed. You are a winner.
You were only unfairly treated. Come Home and you will receive a heroic and
rousing welcome. Well done YIRI.
